Member Covenant

Based on the profession of our faith in the Lord Jesus, and having been baptized as believers, we do now joyfully enter into covenant with one another as members of The North Church. By God’s grace and with the help of the Holy Spirit we commit to:

  1. Follow the Scriptures as the final authority in our lives, observe all that Jesus commands, and uphold the Member Affirmation of Faith (Ps. 119; Matthew 28:20; 2 Tim. 3:14–17; 2 Pet. 1:19–21).

  2. Pursue a growing relationship with God through Bible reading, prayer, and other spiritual disciplines (Luke 18:1; Acts 17:11; 1 Cor. 9:24–27).

  3. Gather regularly with the church for fellowship and worship through singing, praying, Scripture reading, preaching, baptizing, and celebrating the Lord's Supper (Heb. 10:24-25; Col. 3:17; 1 Cor. 12:12–27; 1 Tim. 4:13; Matt. 28:19–20; 1 Cor. 11:17-34).

  4. Walk together in brotherly love by carrying out the various “one another” commands in the New Testament and by using the spiritual gifts God has given us to build up the body of Christ (John 13:34; Rom. 12:3–12, 15:7, 14; 1 Cor. 12; 1 Thess. 4:18; James 5:16).

  5. Labor for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace and resolve disputes with each other in private or within the Church (Matt. 5:23–24, 18:15–20; 1 Cor. 6:1–8; Eph. 4:1–3, 32).

  6. Welcome the teaching of the elders in accordance with the Elder Affirmation of Faith, submit to the authority of the elders in accordance with the Scriptures, and participate in membership matters including church discipline (Titus 1:9; 1 Pet. 5:5; Heb. 13:17; 1 Thess. 5:12–13; Matt. 18:15–20).

  7. Raise children under our care in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Deut. 6:4–7; Mark 10:29-30; Eph. 6:4).

  8. Contribute cheerfully and regularly to the ministry of the church, which includes caring for needs in our community and advancing the gospel to the ends of the earth (1 Cor. 16:1-2; 2 Cor. 9:6–7; Rom. 12:13; 1 John 3:17–18; Matt. 28:18–20).

  9. Live righteously in the world so that we guard the reputation of Christ and his church (1 Cor. 6:9–10; Titus 2:11–14; 1 Peter 1:13–19; 1 John 3:4–10).

  10. Do everything for the glory of God, who has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light (Matt. 5:11–12; James 1:2; 1 Pet. 2:9).

  11. Finally, if I leave this congregation, I will commit to join another biblically faithful church, as soon as possible, with whom I can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word (Heb. 10:24–25; 13:17).
