Job Description for Ministry Assistant for High School Discipleship
Reporting to Pastor for Youth & Families, Jon Nowlin
Working as 20 hrs/wk
Responsibilities
To assist the Pastor for Youth & Families in ministry to High School students and their parents.
To regularly study and teach God’s Word discerning the Divine and human authorial intent, and present the Scriptures skillfully, humbly, and winsomely to High School students.
To assist in the discipleship, equipping, and encouraging of the Student Service Team whose aim it is to serve the church and their peers for Jesus’ kingdom advancement.
To pursue the cultivation of an atmosphere where young people from all ranges of spiritual development are welcomed, encouraged, and challenged to trust and treasure Jesus Christ.
To assist in the encouragement and the equipping of High School parents in the discipleship of their young people to further flesh out the vital and biblical partnership between church and home.
To work with young people, church leaders, and families to help young people thrive as vital members of this local body of believers discovering, developing, and utilizing their gifts.
To help cultivate Biblical Fellowship at gatherings and seek to promote its flourishing among families within their homes.
To assist the Pastor for Youth & Families in the leadership of: Wednesday Connection, Fellowship Rotations, Sup N’ Stuffs, service projects, Sunday School, Overflows, and other areas as needed.
To assist the Pastor for Youth & Families in various administrative tasks related to regular programming and events including things like overseeing parent help, coordinating transportation, and deploying adult mentors to serve students.
To assist in vision, planning, implementation, and leadership of High School retreats.
To assist the Pastor for Youth & Families in recruiting, training, and leading a team of volunteer servants in High School ministry.
To assist in Youth Baptism administration, classes, and service.
To participate in regular Youth meetings as necessary.
To cooperate with the church staff in joint efforts to accomplish the mission of the church.
To assist in advancing the vision for Youth and Families.
Other duties as required.
Role Description
In dependence on God, the aim for all Ministry Assistants is to wholeheartedly glorify Jesus Christ, seeking to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ by providing pastoral help (hands and feet) to implement or do a ministry. Ministry Assistants shall maintain a Christian spirit of love and service toward the staff, congregation, and those we serve, in accordance with the church’s vision and philosophy of ministry.
Qualifications & Requirements
Godly Character
Meet the spiritual and character qualifications of deacon as found in 1 Timothy 3:8–13 and to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23.
Seek to sustain a vital, growing relationship with the Lord through personal and corporate worship, study of God’s Word, prayer, and regular, ongoing fellowship with believers at The North Church.
Model servant leadership and exhibit a helpful, joyful attitude.
Be an individual of prayer and of the Word, sensitive to what the Spirit is saying to The North Church, devoted to daily prayer and Bible reading for the sake of being guarded from sin and stirring up one’s heart and mind to renewed passion for Christ. Gladly participate in mutual care and accountability with other believers.
Seek to do duties in the power of the Holy Spirit, undergirded with prayer, guided by the Scriptures, and manifesting the character of Christ for the glory of God.
Church Member
Be a member in good standing of The North Church or, if not a member when called to the church, become a member as soon as possible, ideally completing the membership process within three (3) months of the date that employment begins.
While ensuring first loyalty is to God and the Word, support the leadership of the church generally and specifically for one’s area of ministry. Strive to maintain positive and fruitful relationships with other church employees, members, and leaders. While concerns or differences of opinion may arise, all employees will communicate in a biblical manner and abide by appropriate supervisory direction and any final determinations of the Council of Elders.
Organizational Skill and Awareness
Have the vision and organizational skills necessary to work effectively, creatively, and flexibly within the context of a church with multiple staff members and ministries.
Recognize volunteers as valuable co-laborers in ministry and will be proactive, prayerful, and persistent in recruiting for the role (as applicable).
Strictly maintain appropriate confidentiality according to the guidelines set forth in our Employee Handbook and Relational Commitments.
Sign our Employee Handbook Acknowledgement Form and comply with all applicable church policies.
Give servant-hearted support to specific area(s) of ministry as well as to the broader needs of our church office and ministry.
Self-Motivated and Dependable
Demonstrate a commitment to growth by attending appropriate training, development, and team-building events.
Have a good understanding of the people, projects, or ministry under the role responsibilities. Demonstrate faithfulness and good follow-through both in collaboration with other ministry partners and in independent efforts related to the role.
