Living in a fallen and broken world is not easy. In fact, we’ve all felt the pain and difficulties of this life. But thankfully, we’re not alone. We have help and hope because of Jesus and what he accomplished for us.
At The North Church, we have lay counselors who are equipped and ready to address life’s challenges by walking with you, opening up the Scriptures, and pointing you to Jesus.
We provide biblical counseling for a range of struggles including marital difficulties, depression, anxiety, broken relationships, purity, guilt, and shame.
If for some reason we don’t have experience in your area of struggle, we will be happy to connect you with a trusted area counselor while also considering ways the church can support and care for you.

Counseling FAQs
-
The type of counseling we provide is called Biblical Counseling. Biblical Counseling is a rich, robust, heart-transformative conversation between a counselor and a hurting individual, couple, or group.
We use the Bible to enlighten both the content of our counsel and the methodology by which we practice. We believe that the Bible speaks into every area of our lives, particularly the painful areas. While God’s word isn’t an instruction manual on how to handle every possible scenario, it ultimately points us to a relationship with Jesus Christ, the One who also suffered, walks with us in the midst of our suffering, and promises to one day make all things new.

Counseling takes place at The North Church. We currently offer counseling during the day Monday through Thursday. We also offer counseling Monday and Wednesday evenings though spots are limited. Counseling sessions generally meet weekly and last between 60–90 minutes. The duration of counseling typically lasts between 3–6 months but can be shorter or longer as needed.
Please Note: At this time we don't have any openings for marriage counseling. For those pursuing individual counseling, there is wait list ranging from 2–6 weeks before counseling begins.

At The North Church we have several lay counselors who have been equipped to provide biblical counsel through a series of classes, mentoring, and supervised counseling experience.
Note: Because we offer Biblical Counseling, our counselors are neither trained nor licensed as psychotherapists or mental health professionals. Additionally, we do not provide medical, legal, or financial advice, but we are willing to collaborate with such professionals as well as we help you consider their counsel in light of Scripture.

We ask each counselee to make the following commitments:
Arrive to appointments on time and remain consistent in your counseling attendance.
Continue your commitment as a regular attendee or member of The North Church by attending Sunday worship services and investing in the life of the church throughout the counseling process.
Allow others from The North Church to be involved in your life during the counseling process to provide additional support and encouragement. This may include participation in a small group / Sunday School class or having someone directly attend your counseling sessions.
Spend time in prayer and Bible reading throughout each week.
Complete all assigned homework and come prepared to each counseling session.

We currently offer biblical counseling for members and regular attendees at The North Church ages 16 and older. We understand a regular attendee to be someone who has consistently participated in the worship services and life of the church for at least three months.
For parents seeking counseling for their children who are younger than 16, we’re happy to provide referrals to trusted area counselors and partner directly with you for support and equipping.
If you’d like to request counseling, please take a minute to read through our Counseling FAQ and then complete our Counseling Request Form. Your information will be handled confidentially and you will receive a personal response within 2-3 business days.
